Stop 1: Amsterdam – Campervan Road Trip Starting Point
Amsterdam is a key gateway for campervan and motorhome travellers looking to explore the Netherlands and Europe. With easy access from the airport, picking up your camper rental in Amsterdam is quick and effortless.
Renting a motorhome or camper van from Amsterdam is easy: book your vehicle online, pick it up on your selected date, and hit the road for the journey of your dreams. You will find additional instructions here, if needed.
There is something unique about starting the road trip in Amsterdam. The city’s bustling rhythm, bicycles, canals, and vibrant city life makes you totally energized and ready for the two-week adventure!

Stop 2: Bruges, Belgium – Belgian little Venice
This stunning UNESCO-listed medieval city in Belgium is known for its
well-preserved architecture, scenic canals, museums and... chocolate!
So, great news for the chocolate lovers. Bruges is world-renowned for its chocolate, often considered a "chocolatier's mecca". Try visiting the Choco-Story museum!
We recommend you park your campervan and explore the city streets by foot. This romantic town offers historic landmarks like the Belfry of Bruges, where climbing 366 steps to the top rewards you with sweeping views over the city.
If you are looking for a more relaxed coastal stop, the nearest beach to Bruges is Zeebrugge, about 15–20 minutes away. It is a wide sandy beach located in the port area, making it an easy and convenient place to spend a few hours by the sea. It is definitely worth a visit.
Don’t forget to try the famous Belgian beers and waffles, an essential part of local culture best enjoyed in a traditional café or pub.
Stop 3: Alsace, France – Land of Vineyards and Castles
From Belgium, the landscape gradually transforms as you head into eastern France.
Alsace is where this road trip truly begins to open up. Vineyards stretch across hillsides, and small villages reflect a unique blend of French and German culture in architecture, food, and atmosphere. Above the vineyards, you will also notice castles on hilltops, overlooking the valleys and reflecting the region’s long history. Many of them, like Château du Haut-Koenigsbourg, are open to visitors and offer panoramic views you don’t want to miss out on!
Wine lovers, get ready! No trip to Alsace is complete without driving along the Route des Vins (Alsace Wine Route), one of France’s most cherished wine roads. We have planned this road trip to include this iconic 170 km stretch, allowing you to experience its tastiness without rushing.
This region is ideal for campervan travel. Distances are short, roads are easy to navigate, and there are countless opportunities to stop. Whether for a quiet walk through a local village, a visit to a local winery, or simply to take in the views over the vineyards.
Nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts will find scenic escapes by heading further up to the Massif des Vosges (Vosges Mountains).

Stop 4: Alps, Switzerland – Say “Cheese”
Get your cameras ready, the Alps are on the horizon! This road trip through Switzerland is definitely one of the highlights of the entire route.
From breathtaking views to thrilling outdoor activities, the Swiss Alps offer an unforgettable experience for nature lovers and adventure seekers.
For those looking to explore the Swiss Alps by campervan, the area offers a wide network of well-marked trails suitable for different experience levels. Hiking routes range from panoramic paths like Rigi Panorama Trail to more demanding alpine terrain near Matterhorn. Quieter areas such as Lauterbrunnen Valley provide a more secluded experience in nature. Here you can find all that comes to outdoor activities.
In Switzerland, food is an essential part of the travel experience, especially in the Alps. The country is known for its “cheesy” cuisine, with cheese playing a key role. There are over 400 varieties produced locally. Traditional dishes like fondue and raclette reflect the region’s history and are widely enjoyed across Switzerland today. Experiencing these meals in the Alpine settings after a long day of hiking is a spot-on experience.
Try visiting Alpine villages such as Grindelwald and Zermatt. These villages provide a mix of mountain views, local culture, and a quieter pace.

Stop 5: Dolomites – The Peak of the Journey
When you think of Italy, images of pizza, pasta, historic cities like Rome, fashionable people and a strong food and café culture come to mind, right?
But have you heard of the Dolomites? The Dolomites are widely considered one of the most beautiful mountain ranges in Europe, and for a good reason. Sharp mountain peaks, turquoise lake, wide valleys, and perfectly maintained roads make this a bucket list destination for campervan travellers.
Located in Italy’s northeastern corner, bordering Austria, the Dolomites have a distinct landscape, culture, and cuisine that’s completely different from what you will find elsewhere in Italy. And pasta is replaced by… just kidding, there’s still pasta!
There are several well-maintained caravan parks in the Dolomites region, but availability can vary depending on the season, so it is worth booking in advance. This is especially important in August, when many locals are on holiday.
Roadside parking in the Dolomites is generally fine for short stops, especially near trailheads and scenic areas. However, overnight stays are often restricted, so it is safer to use designated camper areas or campsites.

Stop 6: Bavaria, Germany – King of the Castles and festivals
Germany’s biggest region, Bavaria, is rich in culture and festivals.
From fairy-tale castles, idyllic villages, and unspoiled countryside, there are plenty of lovely places to visit in Bavaria.
Bavaria offers a strong mix of cultural cities, alpine landscapes, and traditional events that fit nicely into your road trip. One of the most iconic stops here is Neuschwanstein Castle, which rises above the landscape like something out of a Disney story.
Bavaria is also known for its seasonal events. The most famous of these is Oktoberfest, held annually in Munich, which attracts millions of visitors from all over the world.
Campervanning in Bavaria is generally very well-supported, with a good network of campsites, designated motorhome areas, and rural parking options.
Bavarian cuisine is a hearty, traditional and deeply rooted in farming culture. Featuring heavy meat dishes, dumplings, potatoes, and regional beer. You have to try local delicacies like Schweinshaxe (pork knuckle), Weisswurst (veal sausage), and Knödel (dumplings). Of course, washed down with a cold jug of beer!

Stop 7: Rhine, Germany – It’s Riesling o'clock!
Welcome to the home of Riesling! Driving through the Rhine Valley, you will find over 30,000 hectares of vineyards and roughly 2,000 wineries spread across the region. So yes, it’s basically Riesling o’clock all the time!
For campervan travellers, it is also one of the easiest parts of your road trip. Infrastructure is well-developed, and distances between stops are manageable. And it is easy to find camping spots to your liking and needs.
Here you have to try the Flammkuchen, German flatbread. Just don’t call it a pizza. You will make both Italians and Germans go crazy.
Rhine Valley has loads of UNESCO-listed landscapes, over 60 historic castles. Visitors can explore charming medieval towns with half-timbered houses and cruise down the scenic Rhine river.
Final Stop: Return to Amsterdam
